Twin Bunk Option For Volvo FL Revealed
Those looking at Volvo’s FL 12 – 18 tonne variant now have the option of a twin bunk long distance cab with the extension of the Hatcher Components Super Class Sky Cab range.
The Hatcher conversion extends Volvo’s Day Cab by 700 mm to provide an extra 250 mm of interior cab depth over the Comfort Cab, and increases roof height to 3500 mm to create the space for the second bunk, and increased headroom. The conversion has full N3 type approval.
The result is two bunks that remain in the down position yet provides ample room for drivers to move freely around the cab, including those of 6ft plus.
Accessing the top bunk is straightforward, although a bunk step can be fitted as an option, and the conversion comes with extensive storage space with airline style lockers and numerous pockets, and of course the bunks can be utilised too. Blue soft tone LED lights are also standard to aid sleep. Options include microwave oven, fridge, night heater and curtains.
The vehicle can also be ordered with an integral seatbelt passenger seat. The extra room allows this to recline and travel freely.
Hatcher’s Craig Poacher says it makes the FL 12 – 18 tonne range a genuine long distance two crew option. “Operators are increasingly looking to optimise the versatility of their fleets. The interior is roomy enough for two, and importantly has the storage capacity. It makes the Volvo FL a real contender in the long haul market.”
The first was sold to courier business Exsample Courier Services and MD Sean Sample is delighted with it. “It really is a neat conversion but more importantly it doesn’t add much weight to the vehicle. It gives us the operational flexibility so essential to a courier business like ourselves.”
The build quality also meets his expectations. “The trim is a good match with Volvo’s interior finish and it has ample storage capacity. It really is a very neat looking vehicle,” he concludes.
